Head dance coach Sarah Williams has stepped in as the new drama teacher since the sudden opening of the position. It was a huge step but with years of prior experience Williams is extremely qualified and knows how to easily get the job done.
“I think that the students have responded really positively but it’s because I’ve worked with them for two years. They’ve all been really excited, I think there’s a lot of trust there, they know that we’re going to have an amazing show. The organization and communication has been great in the first two weeks and we’re off and running,” Williams said.
Since she has taken on the position she has had a positive influence on many students. One of her dancers has even joined drama because of her influence.
“I’ve actually never done drama before. I switched to do choreo with Mrs. Williams because she’s the dance coach but she’s also the new theater teacher. I just know her from dancing with her and I really like it,” Gabi Pagel said. “I think that her experience with working with artists and working with people who are looking to be part of a big project that has definitely helped just because of efficiency, time management, and disciplinary skills all those kinds of building blocks for a good production.”
Williams already has a clear vision of what she wants to do for the drama class. She has set aside goals for her and her students to achieve for the spring musical. She also hopes to continue with the role of drama teacher permanently.
“I think in an Ideal World I would love to remain the Drama teacher because it’s such a passionate area for me outside of school. I work for a lot of different theaters and a lot of different colleges and this is what I do and I love it. Right now I’m really focused on getting the show to be excellent and making sure Legally Blonde is perfect, exciting, and awesome! Great for the school and great for the program that’s my focus,” Williams said.
The drama students are confident in William’s ability to lead their class in the right direction and to set them up for a successful future.
“She has done shows in Folsom, Rocklin, and Lincoln everywhere around this area so she has a lot of experience. Her connection with kids is very strong; she knows how to deal with them, she knows how to build bonds with them, she knows how to help them improve,” Ryan Pettersen said.
“My vision for the program is that I leave it so much stronger than when I came. I want them to have all the money in the budget that they need, all like the accolades from the show, I want it just to be so stellar and them to just go out on a huge high, especially the seniors,” Williams said.
