Roseville High School PE teacher Josh Errecart has had a passion for running for most of his life. Since 2008, he has participated in 39 marathons and 7 Ironman Triathlons.
“Running’s been a lifetime hobby, if you will. It all started because I just got uber competitive after high school, so I gravitated towards running as what I was decent at, and it allowed me to compete still at an older level. As I got older, it switched more from competition to just personal drive, making myself better, trying to get better, you know, peak potentially athletically. Then also a big part is just to stay in shape. It’s the most efficient way for me to stay in shape and my life is so busy that I need an efficient way to stay healthy and stay in shape,” Errecart said.
After running his first marathon in 2008 from the Folsom Dam to the State Capitol in Sacramento, Errecart’s marathon goals and experience have since expanded.
“Always the ultimate goal for runners is the Boston Marathon. The Boston Marathon is the super bowl, you can only race it by qualifying for it. It’s the oldest marathon, it’s the pinnacle of marathon running, and I’ve done it twice, so I’ve worked for a long time to get back and that’s what I just accomplished at the LA Marathon is I qualified for the 2026 Boston Marathon. So that’s always the ultimate goal,” Errecart said.
While running on average 10-15 miles every week with the PE Classes, working as an athletic teacher/mentor helps Errecart build endurance and practice constantly. Errecart has set many goals for the future, and is on track to reach them.
“I also have a deep desire to do the New York City Marathon and the Chicago Marathon, which I qualified for Chicago, so I’ll do Chicago again in 2026. I’m hoping to get into the New York City Marathon in 2026 as well. I’m running another on May 4th in LA and I’m hoping to potentially qualify for the New York City at that one. I also have a goal to run 50 marathons before my 50th birthday. So that’s 2 years away, and I’m on number 40, so I’ve got 10 to go. So that’s another kind of long-term goal in life,” Errecart said.
