There are many ways to customize one’s bedroom. Some go for a trendy look, some go for a minimalist look. For junior Kolton Eckman, he enjoys decorating his room through his own distinctive style.
“I’ve been collecting them since I was about 12, that’s when I moved to this room, this room is bigger than my other room so when I moved it was so empty and I just decided to start collecting a bunch of old stuff cause I thought my room would look really cool. I really think stuff from the past is interesting like how people lived their lives and what electronics they used is really what I’m interested in,” Eckman said.
Some objects in his bedroom are not just items that need to be dusted every other week, but are antiques that need special attention.
“So this is a tube radio probably from about the 60’s, each one of these tubes does a different thing, like one detects the radio wave or frequency or whatever you want to call it. It all has components that do their own thing and for it being from its time, you can work on it. You can replace everything inside of it and a lot of it has to be replaced over time because that’s just how stuff was back then,” Eckman said.
Eckman possesses some most favored objects and takes pleasure in showing them off.
“My three favorites would definitely have to be the record player we just saw because that one’s almost more than 100 years old and it survived all this time just in my great grandma’s basement, that’s where I got it from, and the radio, that one is from 1929, it’s almost 100 years old I think it’s about 95 or six years old now almost as old as my great grandma which is the crazy part. My last favorite would definitely have to be the imac, its a imac g3 from around the the early 2000’s or late 90’s and its just a cool thing to have because it’s an imac with a crt like this one but smaller, and it doesn’t work unfortunately but it’s a really cool thing to have up in my room just to show people,” Eckman said.
