Georgia Ward is a junior at RHS and is a senior umpire for softball. She has been an umpire for 5 years, and a senior umpire for 2 years. As a softball player in Roseville Girls Softball, she had always looked up to the umpires so she decided to give it a shot.
“I got into umpiring because I grew up in RGS and I grew up watching a lot of older girls umpiring and having fun so I decided to instead of once I aged out of RGS it would be a fun way to give back,” Ward said.
As a senior umpire, Ward has a lot of responsibilities to keep softball games running smoothly. She trains new umpires, umpires more games, and can do older divisions.
“Being a senior umpire means I train new umpires that come and I have a little more responsibility taking on older divisions,” Ward said.
Ward thinks that umpiring is a great way to help out the softball community, as well as make some money.
“It’s a good job to have you know, it’s a good way to make money with a flexible schedule, and it’s a nice way to give back to your community.”, Ward said.
