Biomedical science students recently went on a trip to Sacramento States 4th annual nursing event breaking down barriers. It was the first year Roseville High got to attend.
“The goal of the nursing trip, it’s called breaking down boundaries for nursing. This conference is to cate to underrepresented groups within nursing, so such as African, American, Hispanic, and Filipino groups. Anyone can attend but it’s just a really cool opportunity for the students to learn about what they can do to get into this profession,” Granucci said.
The purpose of the trip was to educate students on the demand of many ethnic groups and males in the nursing field, In addition to teaching students what nursing is and how to apply for a program.
“Well as far as the student body is really just to let people know that there is a need, there’s a great demand for more nurses. We have a time right now where we are very low with males in nursing, so theres another group and we have a high level of men. It’s not just a female area, it’s definitely a big demand for men to. So I’m hoping the student body is gong to realize the possibilities and the opportunities in nursing,” Granucci said.
Students Oak Pinedo and Leo Huerta both had great experiences on the trip and gained valuable information that can help them grow and be successful in their careers.
“The most exciting part is definitely being able to talk to actual nurses and figuring their experience and seeing how I’m gonna apply it to my career,” Pinedo said.
“My favorite part about this trip was probably just getting to meet the people and hearing their experiences. Also going there was pretty fun, the trip there and the trip back was really fun because I had four friends that went with me,” Huerta said.
