Last Friday, construction took over a portion of the senior lot and the new student parking lot that replaced the portables. The construction crew redid the asphalt on several different areas of the parking lot.
“We’re doing some asphalt repairs, they had an old electrical fault that they wanted to abandon, so we took that out about four feet, and we’re putting in three-quarter inch baserock. Then we’re going to pave it with four inches of asphalt, so it makes it level and flat again for you guys to drive on,” construction superintendent Joe Sciara said.
“Around the corner there we’re doing some root repairs, and those are invasive, they’re hazardous, they’re a liability to the school, so we ground those out four inches, and now we’re paving it back with four inches of fresh asphalt. It will flatten out the parking lot and the roots will be gone, good for you guys to park on again,” Sciara said.
According to Sciara, his team was contacted to fix several issues that arose after the removal of the portables.
“The principal, they have a director of maintenance, so they’re the ones who walk the sites, because they removed the portables that were there, it’s not really safe to walk on anymore, so they contacted us to come and give them a bid to repair that for them,” Sciara said.
Junior Dustin Holcomb believes that the new areas will be beneficial to students.
“I feel great about the redone parking spots because I play baseball right, and when I’m trying to park there man, the roots are just like chomping at my tires every time and I feel like I’m going over bodies, you know, it’s bad uahgh,” Holcomb said.
