The Russian language is a new confirmed course that will be available to students during the 2026-2027 school year. It will be able to fill the A-G requirement for a foreign language.
The new Russian language course is adaptable to students at all levels of Russian. It will be more interactive than the other language courses since students can practice conversing with native Russian speakers. According to the future Russian language teacher, Fischer, this course is phonetically easier than other languages and will also focus heavily on Slavic history.
“It has a different alphabet system so it’s not Latin-based it’s Sarilic. But there are some important facts about that, phonemically it is much easier than even English.” Fischer said. “As long as you get the phonetics or 32 letters and understand how it’s pronounced and written it is pretty straightforward how to read and write.”
Many students are excited about this new language class and believe it will take some time to get students to participate, but it will be a successful class.
“Knowing about the curriculum I think it is going to be a fun class to take. I think it would be pretty useful. I don’t think it’s any better or worse than the other language classes but I think it is a pretty cool class to have. It’s a pretty useful language to speak around here so having it is a good idea.” Alex Fork-Cyliax said.
This new Russian language course is an opportunity for students to distinguish themselves from others since it isn’t a class offered everywhere, and it’s a useful language to speak.
“Anybody who is looking for a career in politics, work for government, maybe going into the army. All these students will have more points for their future to get those highly paid careers because the Russian language course is not that common to be taken.” Fischer said. “Plus it will distinguish you from out of many students who typically take French or Spanish courses. And it will also distinguish our Roseville High School because we will be the only one high school offering Russian courses compared to any other schools in our district.”
