RHS Senior Mike Jones has turned a love for flying remote control planes into a hobby. His passion stems from a close family member of his who introduced him to the world of planes. Since then, his love for flying has grown heavily.
“I’ve been interested for maybe 8 years now, going on 9 possibly. My dad’s a pilot, so I’ve kinda always been into planes since I was a little toddler even,” Jones said.
Jones started from a very early age. From there on the amount of experience he has has grown to a sizable amount.
“I started flying them at 9, when I was at a lake with my dad I saw one and I fell in love with it from there. It’s getting to like maybe 40, I own like 20 now,” Jones said.
The planes he flies are not just something that he can get right off the bat. Jones stresses that the process of acquiring them could sometimes range from being a bit easy or a bit challenging.
“I mean it’s kinda just like, go to the store, get gift cards and then buy them online, but yeah it can be a process sometimes. It can be difficult when it comes to them being in stock and out of stock, because they’re always coming out of stock,” Jones said.
The planes aren’t small either. Jones highlights the great sizes compared to any other average toy remote control planes.
“They can range all the way from 60 inches to 140, so maybe me standing on top of myself is how big the wings would be,” Jones said.
Jones plans on continuing this hobby into the future. He believes everyone should and is able to give his interest a try.
“I’m very much planning on doing this in the future. It’s an easy hobby to get into, so honestly yes I highly recommend it,” Jones said.
