The condition of the football turf at Roseville High School has been a growing concern for many student athletes. As a soccer player and someone who has spent countless hours on that field, I can attest to the multiple issues that are happening due to the turf. The turf, which is supposed to be a safe playing surface, has instead become a hazard, leading to a significant injury risk among players.
It’s not just football players who are affected; soccer, lacrosse, and flag football players all share this field and face the same risks. I’ve personally witnessed my teammates and friends deal with injuries from this field.
It’s sad to see my own teammates getting injured with long-term injuries like torn ACLs. Not only does it end their career for a long time, but it also affects the team because we are down a player. My teammates who don’t go to Roseville always talk about how terrible the turf is and how it hurts to play on it when they travel here to play.
It’s not just a local issue: people outside of our community know it’s a problem too. It really says a lot when visiting players dread playing on our field because of how bad it is.
With so many sports teams using it, the field gets worn out quickly, and it doesn’t seem like it’s being maintained properly, or at all.
We need the school administration to realize how important it is to provide us a safe environment. We’re dedicated to our sports, and we should be able to play without constantly worrying about getting injured. A better-maintained field would not only prevent injuries but also help the players perform better. It’s hard to focus on the game and give it your all when you are worried about tripping, or landing wrong. A safer, higher-quality turf would let the players at Roseville concentrate on improving our schools and enjoying the sports we love.
Investing in a better turf would also be great for the future of our school’s athletic programs. A nicer field would attract more students to join the teams, boost school pride, and could even bring in more support from the community.
While I know it’s expensive, I see the school spending money on pretty random things like the new tiger cover for the front of the library, which I heard was expensive and definitely not necessary. We could be saving money as well as fundraising for more important things like new turf on the football field.
