Being a senior on campus has some great benefits and holds some great opportunities. One of those is the chance to have a personalized parking spot, which is a very cool thing our school lets us do. However, if I pay $85 for it, at least make it worth it.
The spots are tiny, and very close together, and not only that but the size of the square we get to paint is close to nothing. I understand it’s a privilege to even paint on spots, but it’s almost $100. Do better. You know the spots weren’t worth it when there wasn’t a high demand for them. None of my friends even bothered getting a spot because of the price, and they agreed it just wasn’t worthwhile.
Conveniently, I get to park in the same spot every day before school, but there are so many more parking spots now because of the portables being torn down. So essentially now I paid $85 something I could get for free 10 feet away. Bruh.
I’m also bummed that the painting squares are teeny. One of the only justifiable reasons that this is the case is that I understand that someone has to paint over the Senior Spots after school is out, but if this is the main problem, why not just have the students with the spot do it? I would be fine with painting over the square after I graduate, even if it’s large. It would just be easier if the students did it themselves. Win-win.
The senior spots themselves are very thin, (and long for some reason,) so having a relatively wide car means you’re screwed essentially. And from the way the road doesn’t have a lot of room, parking perfectly between the lines takes some serious focus and aura.
I would think the spots are worthwhile if I was somebody who came to school late and knew I was guaranteed a good place to park, but I always get to school around 8 or 8:10, when the whole parking lot is empty.
I feel like an idiot parking in my senior spot when there are so many parking spots that cost nothing.
Being a basketball player currently for RHS, there are a lot of times I have had to come to school at 5 or 6 PM before a game, but my spot is taken by some random parent, which is ironic, leading me to park in one of the free spots far away.
This isn’t super inconvenient, because I understand I don’t get to have priority after school hours, but I just think it would be nice if athletes who own a spot could still get to use the spots if there are games. Of course, there is almost no way to do this, but for $85 I feel this would justify the price if this was the case.
I’m thankful our school does cool things like Senior Spots, and I don’t want to be ungrateful. Nevertheless, I still believe things can be better. It’s small changes like the size of the painting square or the price that could just make it more worthwhile and meaningful for seniors.
