Roseville High School is currently undergoing many construction and renovation projects, and one of the first to be completed was additional student parking to replace the portables.
“We decided at the end of last year that we would be getting rid of the portables right away and it was crazy how quickly that happened. They just pulled up a semi-truck and put the classroom on it and drove the classroom away,” Principal Ashley Serin said.
Many students believe that the new parking lot makes parking easier and was a good decision to prioritize it over other projects.
“It’s pretty convenient, it’s really nice that we have more spot because I could actually park here instead of parking in Berry” senior MacKenzie Trejo said.
“I think it’s great. It adds a lot of new parking spots so that nobody has to go into the neighborhood to get spots I think that we can always find a spot with not having to worry about if the slots going to be full or not I could always come here and get a spot, and especially for like newer drivers they don’t have to worry about it being a stressful situation to get out,” said junior Hudson Bales.
One flaw that some students have noticed is 2 parking spaces towards the front of the lot are being heavily affected by roots from a nearby tree.
“So we wanted to maximize as many parking spots as we could and with California code and all of that… each parking spot has to be a certain width and a certain length, so we really wanted to maximize it, so that spot that has the roots underneath technically could be another parking spot,” Serin said.
“I mean it only affects two parking spaces, I parked in one of those places before and it’s not really that big of a deal,” said Trejo.
Even though student parking has increased for now, Serin warns for the future of parking availability.
“Right now we are going to have the most amount parking we’re ever going to have because when we start to build the pool out, the pool is actually gonna take up some parking spots,”
Serin said, “So at the end of the day we are going to have more parking than we had before but it’s not gonna be as much as right now, so from now until March just soak up how much parking we have available,”
