Sophomore Gwyndolin Heinzen has had many experiences with cats because of her lifelong fostering activity. Due to her nearly a decade of experience, she started when she was really young
“I think I started when I was six, I remember I was really young,” Heinzen said.
One of her inspirations to start this is her mom, because it was her idea to take cats from the shelter to help them get to a home safely. Her mom wants to do this because she was scared of what would happen to all these cats if they were to run out of space in the shelter.
“My mom says we don’t want them to stay in the shelter, because if they run out of space, something bad may happen to them,” Heinzen said.
And so for years, the Heinzen family has been taking care of cats and giving them to new homes. But since they have been taking care of cats for a long time, they realize they are special problems due to them being fosters.
“There are different responsibilities due to the cats being fosters,” Heinzen said.
While the Heinzen family was taking care of all these cats, they found all different types of ways to take care of them depending on their personality.
“Personality makes a big difference because when they’re young, they crawl everywhere and make a mess,” Heinzen said.
Even with all the problems that their family faced, Gwyndolin still plans on fostering cats like her mother when she grows up.
“ I definitely think I will, but not to the extent my mom is, only like one or two,” Heinzen said.
