This year Roseville High School has added several new dual enrollment classes such as dual enrollment US History, dual enrollment College Algebra and all the engineering classes have changed to dual enrollment.
School counselor Jason Bradley believes that these new courses were added to offer more variety to students.
“I think some of the new dual enrollment classes were added because there were teachers that had the desire to bring those classes to Roseville High School to benefit students and give students more options for dual enrollment classes,” Bradley said.
“They are an effective and wonderful way for students to experience college level coursework at Roseville High School and to be able to earn college credit and expose themselves to the rigor that college courses bring to this environment. Students are attracted to the different options. They’re pros and cons for each option so I’m hoping that we give our students options and that they are able to choose between dual enrollment or advanced placement.”
According to Bradley, there are several different models of dual enrollment to apply to different courses.
“So theres two models of dual enrollment, one is where it’s kind of asynchronous where there is a professor that is teaching the class remotely and providing the curriculum and the assignments and the teacher on record here is overseeing the students making sure that their questions are answered and that they’re progressing through the curriculum. Then there’s the model where our own teachers are instructing the class because they have the qualifications and credentials to be able to do that.” Bradley said.
Some students believe that there are many benefits to taking these courses that will help them with their future education.
“I chose college algebra because I just feel like I’m able to get a good experience especially just in college and be able to have that feel for what college classes are going to be like,” senior Will Hendrix said.
“I think dual enrollment just gives you the opportunity to get the credit for the class you are taking rather than having to take the AP class and then having to take the exam as well to get the credit.I think you can just take the class, earn the credit and then it’s much easier I feel like.”
“I took the class so I could save time in college and then save money too cause it’s cheaper to take it here than in college.” senior Macy Clifford said.
“The class is really nice. It’s all individual work because it’s through Sierra College, so we have a separate Sierra College teacher, all class period we get an assignment and it’s due every Sunday night and you have the whole week to get alone time in class,”
