A group of friends at Roseville High School who share a love for skateboarding have been making YouTube videos on skateboarding trips they take. Before forming a group, they each had skated individually for several years. One of the boys, Cooper Moore, is close with the guys and loves the hobby he and his friends share.
“As a group, we’ve been skating for a little over a year,” Moore said, “I’ve known Jake since the sixth grade and I met Zach and Willis in the eighth grade and freshman year. After that, we all just started skating together.”
After skating for a few months together, they decided that they wanted others to be able to see them skate as well. Since some of them had skills in editing and filming, they started a YouTube channel and branded it Unidentified Skate.
“We’ve been posting videos for probably over a year now,” Moore said, “We thought it’d be fun to just film everything we did and a lot of skateboarding has to do with film as well and we just found it fun to post it.”
Because Moore and his friends all live in or near Roseville, they usually find local places to skate and record. However, they have recently started traveling to farther locations for a diversity in their film and for new experiences.
“We usually skate around Roseville and the Sacramento area. We go to a lot of skate parks around here,” Moore said, “Occasionally we do take trips down to San Francisco and San Jose to try and mix things up a little bit.”
Another group member, Zachary Smith, focuses on organizing the group and locating places for the group to skate and record at. They find schools, parks, and other places to fit their recording style. They then have to focus on getting their videos.
“First we’ve got to find a place that we want to record at and get there. Then we have to figure out what tricks we’re going to do in the video and then record all that,” Smith said, “After that, we have to edit it, which takes a little while. When we’re done with all the editing all we have to do is put the video up onto the channel.”
