Roseville Police Department will be issuing $62.50 fines to students parking on residential streets off campus without a permit tomorrow morning, according to officer Carlos Cortes.

Cortes sent a staff-wide email asking teachers to caution their students against parking in these permit zones this afternoon.

“The main objective is to make sure the students don’t get stuck with a fine,” Cortes said. “That’s number one.”

Roseville PD received complaints of unpermitted parking from residents. According to Cortes, they are asking for officers to take action in addition to Roseville’s Parking Enforcement.

“The residents are calling saying ‘we want you to cite.’ So our hands are tied,” Cortes said. “I don’t want to see the students getting ticketed.”

Cortes believes the amount of complaints will increase due to the increase in student drivers throughout the school year.

“As long as the residents don’t complain it should be okay,” Cortes said,” but [students] shouldn’t park there because they’ll just keep calling.”

Junior Spencer Sundlie, who parks in a residential area before school, believes it is unfair to fine students without Roseville PD directly advertising the warning.

“It’s ridiculous considering the school doesn’t offer enough parking for everyone who comes to school here,” Sundlie said. “Especially when sometimes I’m late and that’s the only place I can park out since admin shuts off the senior lot.”

Cortes said students who may park without permits should park near Woodbridge Park tomorrow morning.

“There’s a lot of parking over by Woodbridge, but I know people don’t want to walk,” Cortes said. “Or get here early and get your prime spot.”

Sundlie is planning to park in the Berry Street lot in order to avoid a fine tomorrow but is concerned about other students finding parking.

“[The other parking lots] are going to be overflowed and some people who would normally have parking spots, aren’t going to have parking spots,” Sundlie said.
