Ariana Grande’s 7 Rings fits in flawlessly
Today Ariana Grande released her newest single 7 Rings from the upcoming album Thank U, Next.
Released just 32 days after her last single from the same album, Imagine, the song flaunts her wealth along with her closest friendships.
This song goes along with her recent theme, independence from men, flawlessly.
7 Rings adopts the melody of Rodgers & Hammerstein’s My Favorite Things, but instead of singing of “bright copper kettles and warm woolen mittens”, Grande raps about “breakfast at Tiffany’s and bottles of bubbles”.
It’s been three years since Nicki Minaj was first featured by Grande on her song Side to Side and with the upcoming album containing no features, it’s seems like she’s been replaced.
In the past six months Minaj has been through some controversies, including but not limited to: appropriating Asian cultures, supporting XXXTentacion, collaborating with the problematic rapper 6ix9ine… the list goes on.
Twitter users have clamoring about Grande’s rapping skills and her apparent newfound independence from Minaj.

After growing up on Broadway, singing A Little More Homework from 13 The Musical, rapping is certainly a new direction for her.
A direction she’s clearly willing to explore and a direction I’m willing to follow.
