The recent construction of the pool and classroom building has caused many potholes to open up in the senior lot, making it difficult for students to find viable parking spots.
In an interview, junior Dean Janson shared his opinion about the potholes.
“I hate the potholes,” Janson said. “I think every time I leave school it’s just really annoying and it’s just really bumpy and I hate running over them.”
Another student who parks in the affected part of the lot is senior Dustin Holcomb. Holcomb shared his struggles to find good parking spots that are unaffected by the construction team’s machinery.
“The potholes are atrocious,” Holcomb said. “I think it’s horrible for low cars because like my car sometimes it could get scratched or like I feel like my wheels are going to get popped. Like I feel like I’m just going through like dusty divots and it’s not good.”
When asked about the potholes, campus monitor Steve Golba said it is a big problem and drivers need to be cautious.
“When I walked you guys out there I could see there are some big potholes,” Golba said. “You definitely have to watch where you’re driving.”
In addition to the potholes, the construction team has been taking up spots in the front of the lot, making many students upset because they have to find new spots in different parts of the lot.
Junior Brylie Bertram, who parks in that part of the lot, expressed her opinion about the issue.
“Actually, it does bother me because like the construction workers, sometimes they take up like the front parking spots and I don’t really like it,” Bertram said.
Another student who is affected by the construction team taking spots is junior Jordyn Swanson. Swanson said it is frustrating to find new parking.
“And sometimes they be parking their tractors in some of the parking spots and those are the spots I usually park in, then I have to go find a new parking spot,” Swanson said.
All of the interference from the construction team has caused inconveniences for many students across campus. Some students say they have been late to class or sporting events because of construction vehicles moving in and out of the parking lot.
“I’m usually like probably five minutes before the bell rings,” Swanson said. “So like I’m pretty much late for class because then I got to go across the parking lot to get a new parking spot.”
Holcomb also said the traffic in the lot has been an issue.
“I don’t like it because a lot of cars have to go in and out every day whether it’s school or sporting events, so I got to go in there about twice a day because we got basketball games, we got soccer games and we’ll have baseball games in the spring,” Holcomb said. “And I think it could do quite a bit of damage to low cars like mine.”
