Last night, Troye Sivan and Charli XCX released their collaboration 1999.

I’ll admit, at first I was skeptical of this collab given how different their styles are. I was worried it would be more a clash than a collab.

While I’m usually not the biggest fan of Charli and her style in general, I was pleasantly surprised with this collab.

The song, written as a throwback to, you guessed it, 1999 features a very 2018 pop tone with the usual rap and pop combo.

Charli didn’t stray far from her usual form so Troye definitely explored new territory genre wise. Troye’s verse startled me because, at first, I didn’t recognize his voice. Now that I’ve heard this side of him, I want to hear more.

Although I’m disappointed Troye didn’t have a bigger role in this collab, all my skepticism has been disproven and I’m eager for TS3 to feature this new side of him.
