Last night, the varsity boys soccer team defeated the Oakmont Vikings 2-1, keeping their first place position in league. Sophomore Austin Whener scored late in the first half, then the went on to score another early in the second half, yet the Vikings then quickly responded with a goal off of a free kick. Sophomore Cameron Belton was very happy that the team was able to take advantage of their opportunities.

“It was a really physical game and they were better than we thought they were,” Belton said. “We played better than what the score reflects, but it was okay because we proved we were the better team.”

The team is now 5-1-1, and Belton believes they can keep their first place spot in order to continue into playoffs and win sections.

“So far we’ve been doing really well in league,” Belton said. “Hopefully we can continue into playoffs and dominate like we have been.”

This Friday, the team travels to Del Campo, looking to defeat the Cougars once again.
