This past Tuesday, the varsity boys soccer team played the Del Oro Eagles at home in their first preseason game.

The final score of the game was 2-1, after Junior Bradley Morin scored a goal early in the first half and Wehner scored the game winning goal to clinch the win off of senior Cole Shaffer’s corner kick.

The team’s two captains, Wehner and Shaffer, both believe the team has gotten stronger this year, and they have a lot of potential to improve off of last year’s season.

Last year, the boys varsity team, led by Pablo Gutierrez, made it into playoffs, but fell short of winning sections after losing to Gregori High School in postseason.

Shaffer believes the team has added some great additions, and despite being a relatively young team consisting of 5 sophomores and 2 freshman.

“We did really well last year, but we lost some pretty good players,” Shaffer said. “We picked up some new underclassmen that will help our team a lot, and I hope we’ll bond and get really good.”

Wehner agreed, saying that the new players along with hard work will lead to a strong season.

“Hopefully we can make it to playoffs like we did last year,” Wehner said. “We have some new people that are really strong players and I think if we work hard enough at practice, play as a team, and just keep up the good work we’ll be really successful.”

The team plays again today at Rocklin High School, in their second preseason game.
