“Sonic Forces” gets back on track with more traditional gameplay
November 30, 2017
Sonic the Hedgehog is back in his latest game “Sonic Forces”. In this latest installation Sonic is back, and he has a war to win. T main antagonist, the evil Dr. Eggman has appeared to have conquered the world finally with his latest invention, the infinite a powerful being with extraordinary power.
Sonic and his friends fend off Eggman, who has become more powerful this time around, thanks to his latest creation. This new foe isn’t easy to beat, but with the help of Sonic’s past-self coming back again and the customizable character you can play as in game, you can do it. Your customizable character not only has speed, but also has some powerful gadgets to help him fight against Eggman’s powerful regime.
I bought “Sonic Forces” for the PlayStation 4 console, and personally I think the game is pretty okay. The game play seems smooth and as it goes back to Sonic’s original path away from his recent setbacks like the games “Sonic Lost World” and the “Sonic Boom” games. “Sonic Forces” introduces new mechanics, like the double boost where you can play as both Sonic and your customizable character in some levels as you both speed through and blast away at various henchmen.
The game’s levels seem pretty short. It’s not your typical stage run-through like previous Sonic games. The story is a bit convoluted. I feel like when they put Classic Sonic in the game, it seemed like he was put in there for profit purposes and not story line.
For the big boss of the game, Infinite’s role is pretty mild. He isn’t really that threatening or even powerful, despite the fact this game has been in development for a while. In my opinion, Infinite seems like a special edition discount villain, like a rare edition toy. As for the plot of the whole game, it’s seems to be solidly meh. Over the whole series, though Sonic has had his ups and downs, this is more so of a stand still. Personally I give the game three out of five for the effort at least. I’m only being generous because the game’s returns to his fast paced game-play, along with a pretty alright c-grade soundtrack. I also give this score because the infamous “Sonic Boom” was a huge drift from what the spiky blue hedgehog stands for, speed.
