KIRKWOOD: Fire Emblem: Warriors compensates lack of depth with action-packed gameplay

JOSHUA KIRKWOOD

The game “Fire Emblem Warriors” came out last month. Throughout the game’s story, you play as either a princess or prince as they try to save a kingdom from a new evil. As you play the game, you interact with characters from previous “Fire Emblem” games like Marth, Lucina, Chrom, Robin and more. Although how the characters get to the new dimension is kind of random, playing as a bunch of characters and going forward with new characters to play in an awesome combat style gameplay is a fun experience. This game has a similar, yet almost identical gameplay style and format to “Legend of Zelda: Hyrule Warriors” and “Dynasty Warriors.” You are defeating countless enemies on the battlefield, unleashing special attacks, some combos, tag combos, etc. After a while, the gameplay feels almost repetitive, the story is a bit bland, and the plot lacks any emotional depth that make it difficult to be drawn into the game. This action role-playing game compensates its lack of depth by providing an action-packed plot line and it’s “Fire Emblem” elements in the game.  I bought the Nintendo 3DS version of the game and it plays well. Although there’s problems with the map because there are too many enemies. Although the game has it’s problems, it doesn’t phase me due to the nice soundtrack, amazing action gameplay, and innovation in enemy defeat tactics.  I give the game 7.9 to 8.1 out of 10 because of it’s new and evolved play style from other “warrior” type games, as you can get lost in the combat that follows.
