FOOTBALL: Varsity falls in 28-20 defeat against Rio Linda

BLAKE BEAMAN

In the first home game of the football season, the Roseville Tigers took on the Rio Linda Knights last night, losing by a score of 28-20.

Senior defensive lineman Colton Rayback thinks despite the team’s surplus of energy, it wasn’t enough to win the game.

“We came out really strong,” Rayback said. “There was a ton of energy in the Tiger Cage and it was a great environment to play in. We just gave up too many touchdowns.”

It was junior quarterback Alex Nicholas’ first start, and he impressed with two passing touchdowns to junior tight end Jackson Esparza. The other Tiger touchdown came from a two yard run by senior running back Alex Evans.

Rayback’s hopes remain high for the team as they head into their last preseason game.

“We’re still working some kinks out, we’re a pretty inexperienced team,” Rayback said. “Once we figure it out and play as one, we will be pretty dangerous.”

The Tigers take on the River Valley Falcons at River Valley next Friday.
