The Tigers square off against the Rio Linda Knights tomorrow night, looking for their first win in the preseason. The Knights, fresh off a 50-37 win against the Center Cougars, are on the hunt for their second win.

In last week’s game, the Tigers lost to the Chico Panthers by a score of 20-7. In the second quarter, senior quarterback Kyle Alves was hit in the head on a broken play, taking him out for the rest of the game. Alves is out for this week’s game, and junior quarterback Alex Nicholas is starting in his place.

Last year, the Tigers had a pretty convincing win over the Knights, winning the game by a score of 42-23. However, the Tigers have lost many key pieces to their team, while the Knights have their leading rusher and leading passer from last year returning as seniors.

The Knight’s senior quarterback Jett Jones led the offense last week, passing for 97 yards and rushing for another 128, amassing a total of 225 yards. Sophomore running back Leonard Skattebo burst on to the scene in his first varsity football game, rushing for 128 yards on 12 carries and totaling four solo tackles.

Although the Tigers will be without their starting quarterback, this is shaped up to be a pretty head to head game. The Tigers’ solid defense will clash with the Knights’ high-powered offense, and this game will come down to how the Tigers’ offense performs behind Alex Nicholas’ first start.
