Middle school students will replace Roseville High School alumni at this year’s graduation ceremony and perform with the Tiger Band. Band director Matt Koutney welcomes the change and said the experience will benefit incoming RHS band students.

“For us, when it comes to growing a music program, you always want focus on the next generation of young musicians, and one of the ways you do that is you want to try to get them excited about music and have some experiences,” Koutney said.

Senior Jacob Coker welcomes the change in tradition as the experience can help them grow.

“I think it’s good to keep tradition but it’s also at the same time pretty good to have middle schoolers come in and just see [what] high school band is all about,” Coker said .
