The varsity baseball is currently in third place in the Capital Valley Conference with a 7-5 league record.

The Tigers won their first two league series 2-1 against both Del Campo and Cosumnes Oaks and then swept Antelope 3-0 last week, winning one of the games by a score of 17-4.

Even after the boys’ strong start, they were swept by the Bella Vista Broncos this week. The three losses moved them from second place into a third-place tie with the Cosumnes Oaks Wolfpack.

Senior captain Nick Tucker sites their success so far to changes made in recent weeks.

“Our lineup changed a little and we have lost some guys so we are a tighter group now, and the ones who are left are more focused on winning,” Tucker said.

He also recognizes others for their contributions on offense and defense.

“We have had more production from guys like Joe Cirrincione, Cam Anderson and myself in the hitting game, and when we have gotten runners on base we haven’t left them on the field at the end of the inning,” Tucker said.

Roseville has passed most of its more challenging series already, with only Whitney and Oakmont left as tough matchups. If the Tigers can continue this success in those crucial games and secure a series win against Oakmont, that title that they thought was lost in preseason may become a reality.

“If we keep playing error free baseball and take advantage of our opportunities with runners in scoring position there is no reason we can’t win the CVC,’ Tucker said.
