The boys tennis team came back from a 4-0 deficit to defeat the Oakmont Vikings 5-4 yesterday, marking the first time the Tigers have beat the Vikings in 14 years. The Tigers are currently 5-2 in Capital Valley Conference play, which is the program’s best league start in five years.

The boys started the match slowly, losing the first four of their six singles games in a row. However, they came back to win four matches in a row – one singles match and three doubles matches – to tie the Vikings 4-4.

In the deciding game, senior Oliver Magsakay came out victorious in the third set of his singles match, breaking the tie to give the Tigers the 5-4 victory.

According to Magsakay, the Tigers triumphed not because of his victory but because of the boys’ mindset.

“I feel like [our success comes from] our drive and how dedicated we all are,” Magsakay said. “Even though we have a lot of new players, we’re all willing to play and fight to win.”

Magsakay was overjoyed with the results from yesterday’s match.

“It felt great [beating Oakmont], we have a really good group playing this year,” Magsakay said. “Most of our team is new, but they learn really fast.”

The Tigers will match up against the Del Campo Cougars tomorrow at home at Sierra View Country Club.
