TRAILER WATCH: ‘Diary of a Wimpy Kid’ set to flop with lackluster cast

GABI HUTSON

I’m sure all of us remember the flop that was the original screen adaption of the “Diary of a Wimpy Kid,” right? And I’m sure most of us remember being awakened by live action Rodrick Heffley.

If you do not recall these things then you are lucky to not suffer the same disappointment as those of us who do remember. Yep that is correct, they are reviving the Diary of a Wimpy Kid series. I first saw the trailer this Saturday at the movies during the previews. My friend and I were in such a state of shock as it was because the whole cast are body doubles to the original…but when they showed the new Rodrick, we lost it. My jaw physically dropped when the showed the generic brand replacement for the king that was the original Rodrick Heffley (Devon Bostick).

Now the original Rodrick was dirty and gross yes but also oddly and extremely attractive. You’d be lying if you said you didn’t find the original Rodrick Heffley at least a little bit alluring.

Since the release of the trailer the internet has broken out in a fury about the horrendous casting. All sorts of funny tweets have been compiled expressing the disappointment felt about the loss of Greg’s fine older brother

I cannot help but laugh and simply agree with them as Rodrick Heffley was my very own awakening and literally the type of man I dream of (toxic I know). How can the new casting directors do so wrong by me? How could they do so wrong by my man?

In all honesty I am probably too old to care this much about if I find the actor playing Rodrick attractive or not but I just can’t help it. I have an emotional attachment to the original Rodrick it’s not easy to watch his character and the original actor be walked all over like this.
