The varsity girls basketball team made the Sac-Joaquin Section Division II playoffs for the second year in a row, and, after claiming the fifth seed, took on the Lodi Flames and the Elk Grove Thundering Herd last night. The Tigers put out the Flames 74-34, but lost to the Herd in the second round.

Against the Flames, 10 of the Tigers’ 13 players scored, led by Shelbie McKay with 17 points and Isabelle Bautista with 12 points.

The Tigers lost to the four-seed Thundering Herd 57-51 on the following Thursday.

Despite a 25-point fourth quarter, the Tigers lost by six against the Thundering Herd. With the loss, the Tigers finished their season 21-8, their first twenty-win season in over a decade.

According to McKay, the Tigers gave their best efforts this season, especially during the playoffs. She believes that this season was the start to future success in the basketball program.

“I think we accomplished a lot this season. Winning league was the biggest accomplishment,” McKay said. “We definitely proved ourselves, especially with they way we competed with elite teams. Hopefully we’ve made a name for Roseville.”

Next season, the Tigers will look for support from their ten returning players — one freshman and nine juniors — and players from the 15-7 JV team.
