Roseville High School’s Theatre Company’s one act performance of The Katrina Project won second place out of 17 other high schools at the annual Lenaea festival.

The Theatre Company attended the Lenaea festival at Folsom Lake College on Saturday, Feb. 11. The festival is an annual three-day event and is one of the oldest and largest high school theatre festivals in the country, with approximately 70 west coast schools participating this year.

RHS Drama teacher Ashley White is glad the company’s effort was clear through their performance and is proud of her program’s win.

“We’re a growing program, and the fact that we got recognized for our work and the effort we put into this is just unbelievable,” White said. “We really researched Hurricane Katrina and monologues, so the fact that the judges found it moving enough to give us second place is amazing.”

Junior Cody Beames, a cast member of The Katrina Project, appreciates the collective hard work that came from the company.

“Getting second place is something that everyone worked really hard in the ensemble, everyone did their best and really put in a lot of effort into everything that happened,” Beames said. “I’m really happy that we got second place.”
