The varsity girls basketball team pulled off a 58-35 win against the previously undefeated Antelope Titans on Wednesay. The girls are now tied for first place with the Titans with a record of 8-1 in league. Each team’s only loss comes from the other.

Leading the team in scoring was senior guard Shelbie McKay with 11 points. Following McKay was junior center Ari McCurry with 10 points and senior Izzy Bautista with eight points.

According to Mckay, the girls’ success was driven by their willingness to share the ball and play together. She believes that by doing that, they took the Titans out of their game plan.

“We moved the ball around really, really well,” McKay said. “Everyone was a threat on the court whereas normally we are sometimes timid.”

McKay believes that the team ruined the Titans’ game plan by having everybody step up and shoot the ball lights-out. The Tigers had 12 of their 13 players score against the Titan defense.

The Tigers will continue on their journey to the first place title in their next game against the Cosumnes Oaks Wolfpack on Saturday at 10 a.m.
