BASKETBALL: JV boys win second tournament of the year

The JV boys basketball team took first place in the Nevada Union JV Basketball Tournament, making this their second championship title of the year.

The team has advanced to a 9-0 preseason record, furthering their undefeated streak starting in the previous season.

The Tigers played three games played, one against the Oakmont Vikings, their second against the Pleasant Valley Vikings and the championship game against the Nevada Union Miners.

In their first game against the Vikings, the Tigers won 81-60. They had four players with double figures, including sophomores Jaylen Solich, Isaiah Devlin, Tyler Edwards and freshman Tommy Spencer. The team was only up seven at half, but outscored Oakmont 26 to 15 in the third quarter.

In the second game, Roseville beat Pleasant Valley 69-65 in their first game of the season where they did not reach 70 points scored.  Devlin was their leading scorer with 22 points, and four steals. Solich followed just behind with 15 points and five assists.

During this game, the Tigers and the Vikings were tied at the end of the third. Roseville led by three points with three minutes left in the third,  then brought it up to a 10 point lead, before finally winning by five.

In their championship game, the Tigers won 66-44 against the Miners. Roseville was up three points at half, but outscored Nevada Union 23-8 in the fourth. The leading scorer in this game was Spencer, who also had seven rebounds.

The team plays another preseason game against the Del Oro Eagles tomorrow night.
