The varsity boys soccer team took the win last night against the Del Oro Eagles in their first pre-league game, winning 5-0.

This year the team pulled up two sophomores, Austin Wehner and Cameron Fletcher, and welcomed back senior midfielder Ryan Branigan, who played on the varsity team during his freshman and sophomore year but did not play last season due to his commitment to Sacramento Republic’s academy team.

Branigan believes that the team’s success last night came from their confidence heading into the match.

“We went into that game pretty confident because overall we knew we were looking good,” Branigan said. “We were all really excited to play and our hard work throughout and during the game came out and reflected in the score.”

The senior believes that both the team’s offensive and defensive work in practice paid off in last night’s game and will continue to do so for the remainder of the season.

“On the attacking side, we pressured the ball really hard and had a lot of success come from that and obviously we know how to find the back of the net, and that’s what we’re good at,” Branigan said. “We have two fantastic center backs and our team as a whole is just great and we’re going to be good this year.”

The team takes on Woodcreek High School this Thursday at home, hoping to pull out another win.
