Cast melds together in fall production ‘Noises off’
November 12, 2016
Roseville High School theatre company’s unveiling of the fall production Noises off was a complete hit. Noises off is about a troupe of actors who are putting on a play by the name of Nothing on.
Considering the difficulty it took to put this play on I must commend them on their outstanding performances. Cast and Crew was thoroughly prepared and well put together. Noises off is based on a lot of slapStick comedy and is very fast paced so it was incredible watching the actors remember exactly where to be and who to smack around.
Actress Emily Botnen was phenomenal as Brooke/ Vikki her theatrical and exaggerated portrayal made up for half the laughs. Botnen’s attention to little details such as Brooke reciting everyone’s lines under her breath mid performance was a great detail that really added to the feeling of “play with in a play” to the show. Not to mention her running up, down and around the two story set in heels was spectacular.
Her co-star Selah Hartman as Dotty was also another personal favorite. Hartman really won me over with her over dramatic character’s antics and how she played them out. Though these two stood out in particular I would give the whole cast a great amount of praise for their wonderful job as each character and the elements they brought.
Going into the show, initially I did not think it would be as hilarious as it was. The whole performance had me genuinely cracking up and at some points, close to tears. The unexpected and shocking plot twists left me satisfied with a good laugh.
The miraculous turning stage was also another thing that I loved and watching it rotate right in front of the audiences eyes was a great added bonus. The best part of the play was watching the behind-the-scenes scenes in the second act and how the cast interacted with one another. This when most of the slap stick comedy occurred. Watching the fast paced jumping and running and chaos had me asking myself how they managed to remember and do all of that.
It goes without say that Noises Off couldn’t be played out by a better cast then this.
