With a first place finish at the Sac-Joaquin Section Division II tournament yesterday, the varsity girls golf team moves on to compete in the Masters next Monday.

The team faced off against, among other teams, the Whitney Wildcats, who handed the Tigers their only loss in league play this year. The Tigers’ 480 strokes was just enough to defeat the Wildcats, who shot 482.

Kayla Kwong shot 77, the lowest score of the tournament, to lead the Tigers to victory. Following Kwong were seniors Lillian Louie (97), Abby Hall (102), Anna Ostrom (104) and junior Carly Nicholson (100). Senior Sydney Ferre’s score of 107 was dropped.

She emphasized that a team effort was needed in order to win the tournament.

“We were nervous, but we knew that we needed to play good,” Ferre said. “If some of us didn’t play good, we needed to try to have a positive mindset because all of us as a team really wanted to move on.”
