GOLF: Tigers finish league with two wins, look toward title
October 14, 2016
The Tigers, the defending Capital Valley Conference champions in girls golf, finished their league season this week with wins against Ponderosa and Oakmont. Now tied atop the CVC with Whitney at 11-1, the Tigers’ title hopes come down to the CVC League Tournament hosted next Monday, Oct. 17, at Timber Creek.
Senior Anna Ostrom feels that her team has consistently progressed throughout this season and is looking forward to Monday’s match.
“We are peaking at the right time as a team,” Ostrom said. “Everyone is performing the best I have ever seen them play golf over the 3 years I’ve played with them.”
The last time the girls faced the Bruins, they won only by one stroke with a score of 249-250. This week, they jumped on top, winning by 20 strokes with a score of 218-238.
Yesterday the Tigers faced the Oakmont Vikings for their senior night and final league match. For seven of eight girls on the team, that was their last match on their home course. The team dominated, winning 219-270.
Senior Kayla Kwong has lead the team throughout the season and continued her high-level play this week, shooting 34 against Oakmont.
Ostrom believes Kwong’s level of play has galvanized the team coming into playoffs.
“Kwong shooting her usual score is definitely helping the momentum of our team,” Ostrom said. “It really has created this momentum that I believe will give us the push to gain a banner.”
