The varsity volleyball team beat the Ponderosa Bruins in four sets last night. The team’s record in league improved to 4-2 after the win over the Bruins.

Junior hitter Sydney Richardson feels that the girls did not start out their game very strongly but proceeded to improve throughout each set. This allowed them to finish strong and get the win

“The first set seemed to be more of a mental issue than physical issue,” Richardson said. “With the support each of us gave to other teammates, we were able to then win three sets in a row.”

Since they beat the Vikings, the Tigers carry the top four blockers, in terms of amount of blocks, in the league. Seniors Isabelle Bautista and Savanah Smith have 45 and 30, respectively, junior Jessica Donahue has 45 and sophomore Erin Butler has 26.

The Tigers take on the 2-4 Oakmont Vikings, who they swept 3-0 earlier this season, today at home.

JV

The JV volleyball team took on the Ponderosa Bruins last night, winning in three sets and maintaining their undefeated record. Although dropping their first set of the season, the girls managed to get the win and are now first place in the Capital Valley Conference at 8-0.

Sophomore hitter Makayla Lyra thinks the team came out slow, but picked it up as the match went on. This is unusual for the team, as the girls had previously never lost a single set.

“We started out slow, but we started to play a lot better in the second and third sets,” Lyra said. “I think it was a good win for us, and hopefully we continue to play like this for the rest of league.”

The Tigers host the Oakmont Viking this afternoon and look to maintain their streak.

Freshman

The freshman volleyball team took on the Ponderosa Bruins last night, winning the first and the third set and taking home their sixth consecutive league win.

The team is undefeated in league so far, winning its first six matches. Freshman defensive specialist Mackenzie Baddley thinks the team has been playing with a lot of energy, and that this has contributed to their win streak.

“We have been playing well with a lot of energy,” Baddley said. “Hopefully we can carry the momentum we have for the rest of league. I’m really excited to see how we perform in the second half.”

The Tigers play the Oakmont Vikings today at home.
