Barry kills the competition
May 16, 2023
Barry is a show created by SNL alumni Bill Hader. Starting in 2018, it has quickly become one of the best shows on television. Barry has entered its 4th and final season recently and I couldn’t be more happy with how the show is going.
Barry follows a Hit-man who wants to become an actor and what he has to do to leave his cycle of violence in the past. Season 4 picks up where season 3 left off, having tons of crazy things happening. Whether it’s podcasting Assassins or a cameo from Guillermo Del Toro, Barry is constantly doing crazy things that keep you on your toes.
The cast of Barry is phenomenal. Bill Hader is an amazing actor with some of the most convincing performances I’ve ever seen. Sarah Goldberg plays one of the best-conflicted characters on television and I love seeing her evolve over the show. Henry Winkler is the perfect goofball but when the time comes he can do dramatic work excellently.
Barry is also hilarious Hader’s work on SNL shines through to make some of the best jokes I’ve heard in a while. Barry’s comedy isn’t its only strong suit, its characterization is excellent I feel like I know all of the characters. Everything someone does feels like a decision they would make and you understand why they would do what they did. The relationship between characters is also an important part of the show. The dynamic between Barry and his boss Fuches is one of the best I’ve seen in any piece of media. It’s on the level of Walter White and Jesse Pinkman.
Cause and Effect is an important aspect of the show. Everything someone does has consequences whether it’s the words they say or how they talk to someone can come back and affect them later. For instance, something that happened in season one can come back to hurt someone.
Season 4 has the episode “ The Wizard “ and it has everything from moral dilemmas to horror and some of the best jokes in the series. The wizard is everything the show does right, it makes you think about who you chose to root for whether it’s Barry or the people trying to stop him from achieving his goals.
Barry is the best show on TV right now. It is easily a masterpiece and it will go down as one of those legendary shows that people will talk about for years to come like Breaking Bad or The Sopranos.
