John Wick 4 Kills The Box Office
April 10, 2023
There’s no denying that the John Wick series is one of the most well performing and most deserving franchises to gross at the box office, and with the fourth installment of the series, it surpassed and absolutely killed the box office compared to the last 3.
For those who don’t know about the John Wick series, please, I beg, just watch the first one. John Wick I follows a hitman on a revenge path, mourning the loss of his beloved wife, after his car gets stolen, and his dog (the last thing his deceased wife left him,) is killed. John comes out of retirement and goes full ballistic on everybody who came after him.
The series just gets better after that. Although it seems as if some of the story is almost repeated, with just Keanu Reeves killing every person in sight and then the credits rolling, the action and the pacing is just like nothing I’ve ever seen before.
From this point forward, there will be some spoilers. If you plan on seeing this film in the future, but keep reading and then get mad that there are in fact spoilers, that seems like a personal issue.
The fourth installation wraps up John’s story perfectly, as well as brings the entire franchise to a great close, with great characters, chemistry, and some of the most badass fight choreography I’ve ever seen in a movie.
The movie is almost 3 straight hours of just pure fighting. No downtime, all peak. The movie never stops to take a breath even for a minute, and for those who look at the movie saying ‘Holy swear word it’s almost 3 hours long!’ it really doesn’t feel like it. Almost makes me feel bad for John, who gets caught in a fight almost every minute. Keanu is way too old to be doing all those stunts, thank god they had him die at the end.
The cinematography is so creative, too. There’s one sequence where it’s an overhead pan of a house John is in, while people come from every angle to attack him, but he has a friggin flame thrower. Another was near the end of the movie, where John has to get atop a giant staircase but there are just countless hitmen coming after him and he has to take them all on. Those were just so creative and made the movie one of its own, and a great watch.
But the best part of the movie was by far the scene in Paris when there are dozens of hitmen coming after John, and he’s in the roundabout, (the Arc de Triomphe, I had to google what it was called,) and John is literally shooting people while doing donuts in his car.
Part of me wished they would make another, because I love these movies, however the way they ended John Wick’s story was just perfect, however they had a post credit scene which might hint to a possible spin off, which makes me skeptical.
I would recommend this movie to anyone who loves action, and overall has good taste. Personally, I give this movie a 9/10, and is definitely one of my favorite films of this year. This movie makes me love Keanu Reeves even more.
