New Guitar Teacher Shreds Into RHS
March 1, 2023
As of the 2023 Spring term, the intermediate and advanced guitar classes have been passed on to a different teacher new to RHS, David Albertson. He has been playing guitar and other string instruments professionally for the past two decades and has decided to teach the Guitar classes here at RHS.
“I specialize in string instruments like violin, guitar, cello ,bass, but I also play other instruments like drums and piano,” Albertson said.
Albertson grew up in the Roseville area and attended Sacramento state college in 2012 and graduated with a degree in music business. He has been with many music groups since then, but his current focus is performing with his wife, covering songs like Dreams by Fleetwood Mac and Billie Jean by Michael Jackson.
“I mainly perform with my wife as the Albertson Duo. We perform acoustic covers and that’s been my main focus for a while now,” Albertson said.
The Albertson Duo are on most streaming platforms, and their most streamed song is a cover of Say by John Mayer. The song has two and a half million streams on Spotify. Albertson often plays high profile gigs, private clubs, and special events seem to be his main crowd. Recently, Albertson took a trip to Mexico to show off his talent outside of the country.
“I play shows about two or three times a week. My last show was at the Old Sugar Mill, it was a Valentines VIP lounge experience for guests to enjoy the Sugar Mill in Clarksburg and it was all catered for,” Albertson said.
Albertson looks forward to helping students have a better understanding of music and plans to help lower the curve that seems to come when learning music.
“I enjoy helping people be able to beat challenges, and music specifically can be a challenge,” Albertson said. “ It involves many different aspects of technique and knowledge, and I like how those things come together, and we create fun sounds.”
