HUMANS OF RHS: Evan Thomas

February 28, 2023

Sophomore Evan Thomas is a local Roseville photographer, as well as a rail enthusiast, who found a way to combine his two favorite things: trains, and photography. On weekends he goes and takes photos of trains around California.

To be honest, I don’t even know how I got into them. I guess it’s just something I’ve liked and I’ve never grown out of it,” Thomas said. “I know my grandpa was huge into that before he passed, so I think that’s maybe what got me into it…my parents have been photographers for 3 decades also.”

Thomas goes to places such as Feather River Canyon, Sierra Nevada, Donner Pass, and more places in Northern Cali. He always goes the extra mile to improve his photo quality as well as changing it up a bit.

Thomas also is in yearbook for RHS, which has given him a lot of exposure to more ways he can do what he loves.

“I joined yearbook freshman year to kind of expand on photography because I knew the highschool has like football games, basketball games,” Thomas said. “For anyone trying to get into photography, your camera equipment is not what matters, what matters is your lighting, your framing, and in general you want good photos.”
