One of my most anticipated games, High on Life released Tuesday, and let’s just say, it’s definitely meeting expectations. The comedy and simple playstyle make this an easy pick for gamers who enjoy fast-paced violence and adult humor.

This is hands down the funniest game I’ve ever played. The opening to this game had me laughing the entire time and while it was confusing, I didn’t really care. I would much rather just play Buck Thunder 2 the whole time. Once you actually get into the game, the fast-paced and chaotic style fits incredibly with the humor, and the comedy had to be good with the creators of Rick and Morty helping with development.

The voice acting is a major plus of this game. Sure, Justin Roiland’s voice sticks out and I am incapable of not imagining Morty while using the pistol Kenny, but honestly, that makes it even better. The comedy from Rick and Morty is great and it fits perfectly in this world.

The characters are absolutely amazing. My favorites so far are Kenny and Knifey, and when used together they are a great duo. The panic Kenny with Knifey’s craving for stabbing works so well together. The rest of the characters are great too, they just don’t stick out as much as the first two weapons.

The graphics are nothing outstanding, especially for being on Unreal Engine, but it’s not that big of an issue. The character and location design are so good, they carry the graphics to make the game look good.

The gameplay is okay, but nothing too special. It’s a typical first-person shooter with weapons having unique abilities. The boss fights are pretty good and do add unique mechanics.

The only complaint I have with the game is the story. Your character is home alone with their sister while their parents are away. They step outside and notice aliens starting to invade. An alien gets executed in the street and was carrying a gun named Kenny who helps the main character through the game. The aliens eventually overwhelm Earth and Kenny teleports the character away before Earth is destroyed. We then have to fight an alien cartel to get home.

I could have looked it up but I think all that I can remember demonstrates how fast this game moves. I wish that there was more time to really get to know what’s going on. The rush to the main plot left me confused and just wondering what was happening during the missions. I think if the opening was just a bit longer and more detailed, it could have really helped the story.

As a whole, this game is amazing. The humor and concept of your weapons talking to you is one of the most unique concepts I’ve ever seen in a game. If you aren’t a fan of adult humor, this is definitely not the game for you, but I think this game is hilarious and I can’t wait to continue playing.
