Senior Victoria Benavides has been working with Flint construction on a CTE Internship for the last couple of months.
“I am part of a CTE internship program that the school has here I inter for a engineering company called flint construction which is just 10 minutes away what I do is a lot of engineering I do take offs they give me sections of blueprints for projects we do,” Benavides said. “We do calculations for a building and see how many panels are needed and how many insulation we need. So there is math and calculations involved.”
Being a student in this internship, Benavides attends a class every Wednesday to expand her knowledge in the business part of the industry.
“Every Wednesday we have a class. I go to Independence High School and we do a business class with Sierra College and there a lot of kids from other schools . and I also get to meet a lot of kids from different schools,” Benavides said.
Benavides had to apply well in advance to get into this special CTE program.
“I started around the end of august but I applied for it during spring of last year,” Benavides said.
Being a part of the internship program, Benavides gets to attend multiple different ongoing projects as a part of the program.
“Sometimes we get to go to construction sites and So one of them was a middle school in Fair Oaks and they were adding more kindergarten classrooms,” Benavides said.
Having learned about this program by accident, Benavides has enjoyed every moment of it so far.
“I found out about it by accident I came in to Mr. Fullers class one of the teacher from the program just walked in and turned off the classroom lights and just started presenting the different programs that they have and I was like oh wow that’s cool and once I finish the classes I got the internship,” Benavides said.
