Top 5 video games of 2022

November 14, 2022

2022 was a big year for the gaming industry. It’s routine to have a solid game or two every year but it’s rare to have a year that produces games that will most likely stick around for years to come.

5- Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2

In fifth place, we have Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2. Being a Call of Duty game, it is obviously a solid game, it just wasn’t anything to be crazily excited about. It had a solid multiplayer and a mid campaign. Like many of the newer additions to the franchise, there were a lot more downs than ups. With lacking maps and a new weapon upgrade system, the game gave COD fans the setbacks in the franchise we’ve come to expect from new releases. The Call of Duty format is always going to leave us with a solid game, but the fact that the franchise continues to decline, I don’t see how the game could be any higher on gamers’ lists.

4- Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands

Tina Tiny makes her appearance on the list at number four with her antics in Wonderlands. This is the first game in the Borderlands series that is disconnected from the rest. It was refreshing to see a beloved character like Tina to get her own game. The game follows the Borderlands gritty art style but also adds fantasy creatures and landscapes that fit surprisingly well. Hopefully this won’t be the only spinoff game 2k makes, especially if we get to see more of our favorite characters. Hopefully we get one about Scooter, rest in peace.

3- Lego Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga

The game that may top many people’s lists is at number three here, Lego Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga. With a franchise as popular as Star Wars and with the Lego games having a great reputation in the gaming community, it would’ve been more impressive if they managed to mess this game up. Thankfully fans’ high expectations were definitely met. Questionable voice acting aside, the game provided the charming humor expected from Lego games with the iconic characters and scenes from the Star Wars films. The graphics got a noticeable boost and despite the world being made of Legos, this is a genuinely great looking game. I think any fan of Star Wars or the Lego games should definitely give this game a shot. You won’t be disappointed.

2- God of War: Ragnarok

God of War: Ragnarok is an easy pick for number two. The introduction of Norse mythology into the God of War world was a genius idea and was a perfect fit for the series. As expected, the graphics look stunning and continues to show the capabilities of the game engines we have today. Kratos going to war with Norse gods is an incredible sight and the game provides this in a shockingly accurate way that other games haven’t. The main quest provides so much with about 30 hours of gameplay, not including side quests. This was one of the most anticipated games in years and is definitely worth a try.

1- Elden Ring

Anyone in the gaming community will see this number one spot coming. By far the biggest contender for game of the year, Elden Ring. This game will surely be on gamers’ lists as one of the best games of all time, and it’s easy to see why. The dark fantasy style and stunning graphics make this one of the most visually appealing games I’ve ever seen. The vastly large map is something we’ve never seen before on this scale. It’s impressive that there is so much detail with how large the map is. The action packed gameplay is one of the things that keeps fans coming back for more. The smooth combat system with the unique boss fights leaves the player with no dull moments while playing. This game is full of content and the typical game will have about 50 hours of gameplay just for one playthrough. This game will without a doubt end up as one of the greatest games ever released.
