RHS student producing his own music
October 26, 2022
Junior, Julian Urtz has been playing guitar for 7 years. Urtz has been trying to perfect his craft before he started to produce and release music on soundcloud and spotify. His first song, All of Your Selfish Ways, came out on soundcloud a little over a year ago.
Urtz has been producing music since then. His last song, Bent Out Boy, came out on September 27th, 2022. Many RHS students have enjoyed Urtz’s music, such as Junior Keaton Boatwright.
“One of my favorite songs is the brand new one, Bent Out Boy, it’s just such a good song and really resonates with the soul,” Boatwright said.
While many students enjoy Urtz’s new song, Junior James Membrere and Junior Thomas Mulholland, prefer Urtz’s old songs.
“My favorite song is Used To Be because I just really like the way he plays his guitar and the lyrics he uses in that song,” Membrere said.
While Urtz is known for his solo songs he has also just created a new band. He hopes to find success in the band with some stuff already lined up for them in the near future.
“I just started a band, we got a few songs going and a show lined up for the end of the month, so hopefully that takes off,” Urtz said.
Urtz finds great inspiration in his favorite bands and models his own music off of them.
“One of my favorite bands in the world is this surf rock band called Hockey Dad, so I take a lot of inspiration from them,” Urtz said. “A lot of Mac Demarco stuff, Surf Curse, just stuff like that.”
Urtz is often questioned about the song’s lyrics and who they were written about or the events that he writes about.
“People always ask me, like who is this song about, but it’s never about one person it’s more about an event in my life or just multiple things going on,” Urtz said.
Many RHS students are able to relate to Urtz’s music. Being able to relate to the music that Urtz produces gives the listeners a reason to really enjoy his music. Being just another student at RHS gives Urtz’s music a reason for so many people to relate to it.
“The most unique quality about Julian’s music is that it’s made by himself and he is just simply a student here at RHS,” Boatwright said.
Urtz hopes to release his album that he has been working on soon. He will be releasing it on multiple platforms under his name Julian Urtz in the next couple of weeks.
“I just released a new song on spotify and soundcloud and the album is coming soon, hopefully,” Urtz said.
