Another Year, Another Call of Duty

Any Call of Duty fan knows what the September of every year means: new game information. Of course, this year is no different.

Activision and Treyarch have just officially announced their next addition to the franchise. This year’s game is Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War.  This game is the 24th to the franchise, and sixth to the series.

The game closely follows the events of Call of Duty: Black Ops, the first-named installment. The COD Black Ops campaign (story mode) is widely regarded as the best of the franchise. Many fans, such as myself, consider the whole game itself to be the best of the franchise, so Black Ops Cold War has some big shoes to fill.

It is confirmed that at least three characters from the precursor will be in the Cold War. These characters include Jason Hudson, Frank Woods, and Alex Mason. However, we will not be playing as any of those characters.

Instead, the developers chose to take the customizable character route which is a fairly new trend when it comes to story modes in games. “Bell”, as the character is known, can be any race or gender according to what the player wants. It even includes a non-binary option that has all the dialogue referring to the character as “they/them”

The new campaign will also have not just one end, along with options throughout the game that will alter the story. Based on what we know so far, this is looking to be the most unique campaign in all of COD

Zombies will also be making a return. Knowledge is limited though: all we know is that it will be in the game. However, it is rumored that Transit, the infamous zombie’s map from Black Ops 2 will be making its return.

Many weapons have already been confirmed to be in the game. These include the AK-47, AKS-74U (it was known as AK-74U in the first Black Ops), RPD, Type 63, AK5, and of course, the M1911.

Many of the guns that will be in the Cold War can also be found in the first Black Ops. However, Treyarch has tried reaching out and importing new weapons that are still relevant to the time. This is a great idea in order to keep everything fresh and new.

There is still more to be revealed about this game. The gameplay trailer has not officially come out yet. Stay tuned for updates and be ready for the release on November 13th.
