Softball starts their season off strong

Coming off a 10-2 league record from last season, and a 17-9 overall record, varsity softball looks to repeat their successful season from last year.

The Tigers had their first game of the season last Friday against the Lincoln Fighting Zebras. Roseville won in dominating fashion with a score of 11-0, to help start the season off hot.

Junior Lauren Mirtoni led the tiger offense going 3-3 with three hits including a homerun, and a double, while racking up 4 RBIs. Sophomore Malaya Johnson dominated in the circle in her first pitching appearance of the season. Johnson went five innings, while only giving up three hits, zero walks, and zero runs, with six strikeouts.

As the season goes on, the team realizes that they still have areas to improve on. Senior Emily Wright hopes that, in her last season, the team can finally get the section championship.

“We have a ton of stuff that we need to improve on, but this was a great and positive start for us,” Wright said. “This is my last season, I’ve been on varsity for three years and I feel the year is a great shot to get the section championship we have been aiming for every year.”
