Last Friday, the Roseville varsity football team opened its season with a resounding 38-0 preseason win over the Chico Panthers. This was the Tiger’s first defensive shutout since a 48-0 win over McNair in 2006.

This result comes off the heels of a 2015 matchup where the Tigers edged out the Panthers, who finished third in the Eastern Athletic League with an overall record of 7-5, 35-27.

Senior quarterback Nick Martig admired the team’s all around performance.

“Our defense did a really good job at containing the run and preventing the big runs, our special teams did a good job pinning them deep, and our offense executed well,” Martig said.

Martig feels the next few games will come down to recapturing this level of performance.

“I think going forward we just need to perfect minor things and keep doing what we are doing.”

The Tigers will play the River Valley Falcons next Friday on the road.
