The vaporwave music genre puzzles lots of people due to the nature of the music and elusive underground artists, vaporwave composer and well known artist in the community Blank Banshee broke his almost one year of silence on all platforms that he communicates through.

The prospect of a new album from Blank Banshee was something that was largely expected this year namely from a interview by Simon Chandler in 2016 where Chandler interviews Blank Banshee after the release of his most recent album MEGA back in 2016 when Chandler asks “Will we have to wait another 3 years for the next album” and is responded by Blank Banshees simple comment “No.”.

The history of Blank Banshee’s music career doesn’t start with his stage name “Blank Banshee” it starts with his former band Shinjuku Mad who made four alternative style albums with heavy use of their bassist Patrick Driscoll (Blank Banshee) with the addition of sampling sound bites from everything from movies to other music creating fluid and great sounding albums.

After Shinjuku Mad split up in 2010 Blank Banshee released his now most popular album titled Blank Banshee 0 back in 2012, this album is so revered because it simply displays what Blank Banshee is good at, like his amazing use of the bass guitar in the song Venus Death Trap, or his heavy use of the stereo version of his music allowing him to make some instruments louder in one ear and quieter in another showcased in his song Deep Space where he gives the music a wave effect by changing the volume of each instrument throughout the song.

Lastly in Blank Banshee 0 he shows his adept use of sampling other music throughout his music to add a richer sound like in his song Dream Cast where he samples vocals from the Shinjuku Mad albums.

Just one year after Blank Banshee 0, we saw the release of Blank Banshee 1 in 2013 where Driscoll makes a harder album with techno and trap vibes while still using the signature Blank Banshee style of incorporating samples from other music artists.

The gap between his most recent album MEGA in 2016 and Blank Banshee 1 in 2013 was not totally empty. Through hidden messages in his website, he released a four song EP titled the Missing.No’s reminiscent of Blank Banshee 1, using harder trap vocals and samples. The lore behind Blank Banshee is not easy to find or understand but through tweets dating back to 2013, stories on his website of one of the few interviews he has ever done can be found. Although he makes great music Blank Banshee shows his creative muses through his elaborate art projects like his ongoing project labeled “45 14 43.2 N 66 05 11.0W” where for the last almost two years he has been taking a photo in the same spot originally for his music video of Photosynthesis from Blank Banshee 0 where he cycles through the photos showing the amazing Canadian landscape spanning from a whole year in a few minutes.

 Through his career he had played for around a dozen locations my favorite being his Toronto set in 2017 where he premiers some new songs and remixes others during his MEGA tour. This year is hopefully going to be a big year for Blank Banshee and I am looking forward to all the new music he has planned.
