Ceramics teacher Joyce Henry devised the idea of a class competition called “The Clay Games” for her Ceramics classes. Henry divided each class into teams who chose a member to compete in a variety of events such as tallest vessel and best wheel throw vessel.
Henry developed the competition to make her class more exciting for students.
“So I’ve been trying to incorporate more fun into my classes this year. So one of the things that occurred to me that seemed to be interesting was to have some competition,” Henry said. “So I came up with the idea of Clay Games”
The students’ quality of work in such a tight window impressed Henry. .
“What was really surprising I think to them was that their work was really quite good, so when they spent thirty minutes really focusing and trying to make something amazing and in thirty minutes they could do that,” Henry said.
